THE SCIO AND ENERGY MEDICINE (continued)
by Antera

Subtle Energy Systems

Vibrational medicine works with higher energy systems, or the subtle energy bodies, which are not in our usual range of sense perceptions. They all exist in the same space at the same time, without interfering with each other. The way it is set up is similar to all the electromagnetic waves we live around, TV, radio, etc. They are all here but when we tune the TV to a particular channel, we only pick up that frequency, and don't see the others. The subtle bodies are all here as well, intermingled with our physical body and each other but vibrating in different frequency bands so they don't interfere with each other at all.

Our subtle energetic systems have been described in great detail by many ancient schools of wisdom, and recent research has shown that some of the subtle energies can be measured scientifically.

The Etheric Body

First we have what is called the etheric body, composed of etheric matter. It is slightly larger than the physical body and has the same shape, but it vibrates at a slightly higher rate, so most people can't see it. This holds the template, like a holographic blueprint for the matter of the body. The etheric body has been scientifically validated and measured in various ways. Most people have probably heard of Kirlian photography, where the etheric body is captured on photographic film. The most famous pictures of Kirlian photography are of a leaf that has been torn, but the etheric field of the whole leaf is still intact.

The etheric body has energy pathways that carry the energy from the etheric realms into the physical. The meridian system is perhaps the best known of these pathways, along with the corresponding acupuncture points. Chinese healers have treated illness using this system for thousands of years, and recently it is being more recognized in this country. The Chinese word for the energy that flows along meridians is ch'i. It is invisible, nutritive energy that enters at the acupuncture points and flows to deeper organs and systems along the twelve pairs of meridians, each governing certain organs and areas. When the flow is blocked or unbalanced, there will be dysfunction of the organs affected.

Meridians are considered to be an etheric-physical interface, because aspects of them can be measured in the physical and other aspects are purely etheric. As the chi flows, it induces currents of electricity in the body. Researchers have validated the locations of acupuncture points by measuring electrical resistance, which drops by almost a factor of twenty at the points.

Another system acting in the etheric body is the chakras, which are a group of energy centers or vortexes, including seven major and many minor ones. They act like transformers, stepping down higher vibrations to energy that the body can use. Each major chakra is associated with an endocrine gland and a major nerve plexus. They are connected to each other and to the cellular level by the nadis, abundant thin channels of energy like the nervous system, which are intertwined with the nerves. Chakras, therefore, primarily affect the endocrine system and its hormones, as well as the nervous system energy. Some researchers have been able to electrically measure the energy of these centers, though they don't have a physical counterpart like the meridians. The chakras are a part of the etheric body, but they also have higher vibrational expressions.

The etheric body with its chakras and meridians has been validated by research, but there is very little direct measurement of the higher vibrational bodies, because we don't yet have the instruments that can detect them. But there are abundant teachings in the ancient wisdom and eastern philosophy, as well as agreement between people who can actually see the human energy field clairvoyantly.

The Astral Body

The astral body, also called the emotional body, is the next level of frequencies. Astral matter vibrates at a faster rate than etheric matter. It is superimposed over and inside the physical body like the etheric body, but it is larger. This makes it easy for clairvoyant people to see, because it extends out around the body for a foot or more, and it is colorful.

Emotions that we call "negative" such as anger, frustration, sadness, guilt, fear, or jealousy, tend to snag the energy flow of the emotional body, creating areas that are stuck, tangled, or muddy-colored. This contracts our astral body, inhibiting energy flow. Positive emotions such as love or joy, as well as activities that are creative and fun, expand our emotional body.

The Mental and Higher Bodies

The next higher level contains the mental body, which vibrates faster and is larger than the astral body. Here we find the activities of our mind-our thoughts, ideas, and creative work. If a thought is repeated many times, a symbolic energy form is created in the mental body, called a thoughtform. Thoughtforms can have positive or negative effects on the mental body, just as our emotions affect the emotional body. Positive thoughts are expanding and promote good energy flow, whereas negative thoughts contract our mental energy and stop or tangle the flow.

Vibrating faster than the mental body is the causal body, where we find our Higher Self and more abstract ideas and concepts, not necessarily related to our current lifetime. Here we may find our karma, soul agreements, and other factors affecting us. Above that are other levels, which are more difficult to describe.
